It's finally warm out and the next few months leave plenty of time to be enjoyed as you enjoy the outdoors or just enjoy running around town.

Central Pennsylvania is a great place and whether you're just visiting or you've lived here all your life, there are plenty of things to do.  Sometimes we forget about places that are local simply because we don't see local stuff as "fun".  So if you need staycation ideas, day dates for you and your friends, or just something to do on your own, here are 25 things to do in Central Pennsylvania this Summer.

Burger Yum in Harrisburg [REVIEW]

Friday, August 3, 2018

Right on the corner of 2nd and South Street sits BurgerYum, a delicious little joint where you can get always fresh never frozen beef burgers that are antibiotic and hormone free!

Right when I walked in I was in love with the inside and the menu. There are plenty of options whether you want a veggie burger, beef burger, or gluten free (a green style burger using lettuce as a bun).  Actually, BurgerYum in Harrisburg is a great place for gluten-free dining because their fries are gluten free and their shakes (except cookies and cream) are also safe to eat!

Once you walk in, they take your order and you can wait for them to call your name while you find a seat outside OR inside.  There's a generous condiment station as well!

I love everything about the quaint burger joint décor inside, from the floor and walls to the tables and chairs.

We received our order in a little under 10 minutes and it was super fresh and warm!  James got the gluten free cheese burger with fries and I got a cheeseburger with parmesan and herb fries and a cookies and cream milkshake.

It was delicious! Seriously I've never had a better burger and I've been to lots of burger joints. I also loved the friendly staff and the seating options.

It's so nice to have a place that is fairly priced for the quality and portions, has lots of seating space, and is gluten-free friendly.  If you haven't been to BurgerYum yet check it out!

Cars & Coffee at Faulkner Alfa Romeo Maserati of Mechanicsburg [RECAP]

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Over the weekend I attended a car event with the hubs and since he's into cars he's always attending all kinds of events in the Harrisburg area.   This time it was Cars & Coffee at Faulkner Alfa Romeo Maserati of Mechanicsburg.

At this type of event, guests are invited to bring their car and share their enthusiasm for cars with other enthusiasts over coffee and breakfast.  The Facebook invite even said that test drives in Maseratis and Alfa Romeos would be offered for those interested!

Food was provided by Helena's Chocolate Café & Creperie in Carlisle.

It was really cool to see all the nice cars that the dealership had as well as the cars driven by all of the attendees.

The lot is very well maintained and the staff were super friendly to all of us in attendance.  There were all types of cars there for the event which was really neat to see and the breakfast spread was delicious!

So yea, I casually enjoyed macarons while shopping for a new car (Yea, right!) and taking pictures as if I knew what I was doing.

If you guys happen to be in the market for a nice car, definitely check out Faulkner Alfa Romeo Maserati of Mechanicsburg!

Red Sky Cafe in Camp Hill | A Review

I wasn't even going to post about my New Year's Eve originally but I had such a great experience where we went that I just had to.   On New Year's Eve we had reservations for a rather new spot in Camp Hill, Red Sky Cafe. Their chef, Wes Stepp brings a taste of the Outer Banks to central PA.  I love the menu selection on their website and how they describe their restaurant.

Our waitress was named Laurel (I believe) and she was so friendly and sweet.   She really helped make the entire experience that much better.

There was a menu for New Year's Eve specials which was a select number of items from their main menu.

James got the pork ribs and I got the NY Strip Steak with a Crabcake served over grits.   I could not believe how much food came.  It was $36 for my plate and $30 for James' plate and seriously there was enough food to give me 2 meals (but I was a pig and ate it all).  Now as most of you know, James is gluten free and it's impossible to find a place anymore that has a great selection.  We were ecstatic when Laurel explained to us that any dish can be made gluten free and that most of their selection is already gluten free.  James was in heaven knowing he wasn't super limited like usual.

So before dinner came out we were served house artichoke dip with bread and gluten free corn chips.  It was so delicious.   The whole atmosphere was really great and it totally made me feel like I wasn't sitting in Central PA in the frigid cold.

Dessert was a delicious slice of Praline Pumpkin Cheesecake.  I loved the presentation but I loved the taste even more.

This was such a great date night for us and I can't wait to go back.

If you are in the central Pennsylvania area make sure you check out Red Sky Cafe.

[Our Weekend] Date Night, Fall Decorating, + LipSense

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

This weekend was pretty low key but still pretty eventful. I always share everything going on in my life on social media and not so much on here. I guess I just got lazy. But from now on I'll post weekly with everything that's happening. But if you aren't following me on social media yet make sure you do, especially SnapChat (EllenR886) because I try to keep it super funny!

So it was time for our monthly date night and this time we had a gift card so we went to Greystone Public House.  This place is so beautiful and classy, both inside and out.  They also have a nice selection for Gluten Free and Vegan folks.

We started off with the veggie board which includes gluten free pita and squash hummus.  There were also roasted Brussels sprouts, carrots, and beets!
I got a glass of white zin as well!
For dinner I chose the Veal Porterhouse which was mouth wateringly amazing and I have to say it's the best meal I've had in a very long time.
James got the slow smoked prime rib. It was fantastic. It literally melts in your mouth!
Told you it was the best meal ever!
For dessert we had the Chocolate Turtle Mousse! It was not only gluten free but very rich and filling.
This was out last date night as an engaged couple because our next one will be at the end of October after we get married.  Our date nights are planned out well in advance since we have crazy schedules with James' work having him on call every couple of weekends.
When we got home we decided we'd have a fire and invite the neighbors over.  Of course I had already taken my makeup off but I figured a little lip color wouldn't hurt. So I decided to try out LipSense!
 Boring dull lips before....
With LipSense you clean and dry your lips then shake the bottle of color.   Then you put three layers on with a 10 second break between each layer.  You swipe in one direction as you apply.  You keep your mouth open, you don't touch your lips, and you can use an oil-based makeup remover to fix any mistakes.
Then after the color is on in 3 layers you can add the gloss.  It seals the color and moisturizes your lips. And if you want your color to last even longer you can re-apply the gloss before meals.  The colors I used were: Mauve Ice and the gloss was Gold Glitter.
Even though I was dressed super casual I felt super glammed up.  So what is LipSense? It's a long lasting liquid lip color that is guaranteed for 4-18 hours.  It's waterproof, smudgeproof, kiss proof, and doesn't dry your lips up. It's also lead-free, wax free, gluten free, vegan, kosher, and is NOT tested on animals.
So I thought it was really unique that this makes my lips tingle when I put on the color.  It's because of a cosmetic grade Denatured Alcohol which is in the tube to create a bacteria free environment. Once the gloss is on the feeling goes away though.  It's normal for the first two weeks of use.
You can even mix colors with each layer.  And to remove you just use an oil-based makeup remover.

The weather has been nice and cool lately (hello Fall!) so we had a fire again.
So the porch is ready for Fall as well. I got rid of the potted herbs and wiped everything down real well and it's perfect for hanging out on cool nights.

And of course it's time to decorate for Fall!

I even made little potted flower arrangements out back.

 Here's our front door!

How was YOUR weekend? Do anything fun?
