If there's one kind of product I love, it's one that has meaning and a good cause behind it.  So when I decorate my home I like to choose something that has both of those things.  That's why I love Baskets of Africa.

Baskets of Africa offers a unique line of baskets that come from all throughout the African continent.  Each basket is one-of-a-kind and is woven by a local African craftsperson.  By promoting the work of those skilled artisans, it contributes towards their economic development and stability.  Most of the weavers of these beautiful baskets are women who are working to support their families and themselves.  And by weaving baskets in the traditional manner, it helps preserve their African cultural heritage.  Baskets of Africa wants to support them so they are members of the Fair Trade Federation which is an organization that also believes that indigenous people around the world should be compensated fairly for their work.

These baskets in today's post are from their Ghana Bolga Baskets collection. These baskets are exclusively woven by the indigenous Gurune people from the town of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana.  Bolga is a crafts center and weaving has long been a traditional skill there.   Since the soil around this area is not fertile enough for extensive agriculture, women in this region instead turn to basket weaving, leather work, and pottery to supplement their incomes as subsistence farmers.
Just look at the beautiful craftsmanship in this fan.   And it really does a good job of cooling you down.

So this first basket is what I'm adding to my house.

It's so sturdy but yet still soft.   I love the tight weave and the beautiful pattern on it.

It looks great on this table in my porch! I can use it to keep random items in like magazines, books, napkins, dog leashes, and much much more.  I love the colors on it and it goes great with the brown and dark blue theme of the interior of our home.   It makes me so happy to see this basket because I imagine the hardworking woman behind it and I hope she knows it is in a great home now.

These next baskets will be part of the giveaway at the bottom of this post!!!
I love the size of this basket. It's huge but not too heavy.  Yet it's still sturdy and you can see the attention to detail in the weave of this basket.  I love the leather grip on the handle.  It's so soft and it actually is great if you are carrying things in this basket.  Say you want to pick up your kids toys and put them in here... see what I  mean? It's useful but still beautiful as decoration!
It looks great on the floor as a decorative piece next to furniture.

And this smaller one still can hold SO MUCH!

This is perfect as a centerpiece on a table or as a temporary dumping ground for your keys, sunglasses, etc. after you walk in the door from work.

Or just make it a centerpiece on an end table!

So are you ready to win the 2 baskets above?
