Age Is Just a Number: How to Stay Your Young, Vibrant Self

Sunday, November 18, 2018

The world could be accused of playing a cruel trick on us mere mortals. In the olden days, elders were given the most respect out of everyone in the clan, but in today’s world, it’s youthfulness that we admire and promote. Alas, none of us are Benjamin Button: we’re all marching in only one direction, and there comes the point where we need to wave goodbye to our youthful side. Or do we? Not necessarily. We don’t have to accept being “over the hill” any more than we have to accept anything else. Below, we take a look at a number of ways you can stay your young, vibrant self, none of which require too much effort.

Keep On Exercising

When we’re young, it feels like we’re always outside and playing with our friends. We’re getting plenty of exercise, and it’s all labeled under ‘having fun.’ Imagine that! When we get older, however, we naturally stop running through fields with our friends (though sometimes we wish we didn’t), and end up spending more time sat down. But if we do this for too many years, then we’ll find it difficult to get ourselves back into shape. Being youthful and vibrant means having energy, and it’s hard to have energy if we’re out of shape. So make sure you’re carrying on with your exercise regimes. If it's been some time since you worked up a sweat, look at working with a personal trainer and easing yourself back into the routine. It’ll feel like hell when you first begin, but it’ll be worth it!

Flexibility

People seem to think that exercise is the only thing they need to be energetic and have that extra spring in their step. In fact, it’s just one of the ingredients. Equally important is flexibility. If you think back to when you were younger, you’ll remember that you could sit in any which way, and still be comfortable. After the wear and tear of living, sitting cross-legged seems impossible! You can get it back however, by engaging in a spot of yoga. You’ll find that you’re much more flexible within just a few weeks of starting classes. Between exercise and yoga, you’ll have more than enough energy to keep up with your children and dogs.

Dressing to Impress

Remember when you were entering your late teens, and suddenly you gained a sense of fashion? You kept it going for some time, and then it seemed to just naturally slip away. But, like it or not, people base their perception of others on how they’re dressed. If you’re dressing beyond your years, then you’ll be grouped into that age bracket, and it’s just a fact of life that how others see us influences how we see ourselves. Stay on top of making sure you’re always dressed well when you leave the home. You’ll feel young, confident, and it’ll keep your youthful standards at a high level.

Take Care Of Your Skin

There’s only so young you can look without taking care of your skin, however. It’s the biggest indicator of age. If your skin looks young and vibrant, then you’ll appear youthful. If it’s full of wrinkles and looks lifeless, then you’re going to look older. It’s that simple! So make sure you’re taking steps to ensure your skin looks young by avoiding too much sunlight and using a moisturizer daily. You’ll also want to pay particular attention to the area around the eyes, which can often make us look older. Use the best eye cream for wrinkles by AVON, and you’ll be able to keep your skin looking youthful. It’s a simple thing you can do that makes a big difference.

Hairstyles and Makeup

If you want to stay looking youthful, then you’ll have to work hard to avoid falling into the styles that everyone else around your age is falling in to. There seems to be certain hairstyles and makeup routines that people seem to love when they reach a particular age. Now, that’s not to say that you should just follow whatever’s in fashion with the younger generation. You won’t be able to pull it off in the same way they can! The trick is to find a look that naturally compliments the shape of your face. Also, don’t forget to take chances every now and again. There are plenty of older people who are disregarding what society says they should look like: now that’s a youthful attitude.

Learn How to Relax

We live in stressful times, but really, stress is something that we can control. We feel that rush of stress because way back when, it would help us get away from predators. We don’t have to be a slave to the feeling when it comes to things like money and the like; it’s not worth it! So try to learn the art of relaxation. You’ll feel better, of course, but you’ll also look and feel more youthful too. Stress is a big contributor to wrinkles, grey hairs, and other telltale signs of aging. It makes us older before our time.

Avoid the Vices

Stress is something that we can control, but we think we can’t. Other factors that contribute to aging, however, are most definitely without our control. Just take a look at some of the things we put into our bodies. Alcohol and nicotine have a dramatic effect on our bodies, and especially the quality of our skin. They can also make us feel more sluggish. If you want to wake up with bags of energy, then try giving up alcohol for a month. You’ll be zipping around!

Stay on Top of Trends

It’s hard to feel young if you have no idea what’s going on in the world. Stay on top of the latest music, movies, and goings-on, and you’ll feel part of the conversation.

Keep Making Friends

We can learn a lot from new people. But how often do we tend to make new friends once we’re in adulthood? Now, we’re not saying that you should ditch your oldest and dearest friends. Absolutely not! But there’s space in your life for new people, too. And you should make an effort to get them into your life, because the more people you know, the more you’ll learn. The key to being youthful and happy might exist in the mind of the next people you meet. Reach out and say hi.

Learn From Others

We know a lot about how to stay youthful, happy, and full of energy. And actually, some of the best advice comes from the people who have had the most opportunity to figure all this stuff out: the oldest people in the world. There are certain “Blue Zones” around the world where people don’t just live the longest; they’re also generally happier and more active than other people, too. So what’s the secret to staying young? It’s all about staying active, talking with friends and family members, and finding a purpose in life. Do these things, and you’ll be on your way to being your best self, regardless of how old you are.

Push Yourself Out Of Your Comfort Zone
One of the reasons the youth is envied is because they have so much excitement in their lives. And how could they not? They’re always doing new and exciting things. Yet new adventures don’t have to stop just because you’ve reached, say, thirty. You’re never too old to try something new. It’s tempting to think you’ve got everything figured out, but life is much more fun when you realize that you don’t know anything. Carry on learning, do things you’ve never done before, and reconsider the things you know. It’s a tried and tested method to having a youthful mentality.

Embrace Your Imperfections

It’s important to remember that you can’t control everything. Sometimes, you just need to accept that you're an imperfect creature, just like everyone else. Being young and vibrant is all about enjoying the moment, and you won’t be able to do that if you’re forever worrying about things that don’t really matter. You can only change what you can change. For everything else, accept that it’s how things are, and get back to living your life.

Your Mindset
Remember, age really is just a number. There are a lot of social factors that have us “feeling our age,” but they’re not based on much. If we’re aware of them, then we can overcome them! So moving forward, look at adopting a new mindset, one that promotes how old you feel rather than how old you are. If you take all of the tips we’ve outlined above, then you’ll be able to roll back the years. And if you really want to get into a different mindset about your age, just think of it this way: the number attached to you only accounts for the number of journeys you’ve taken around the sun. When you think of it that way, it suddenly becomes less of a big deal.
