How To Prepare for Summer's End

Summer is coming to an end and it's time to transition many aspects of our lives and homes towards what's to come with Fall so I made a list of some ways to prepare for the end of summer so it's a smooth transition and you can still find time to enjoy the in between.

Prepare your garden.
Harvest the last of your summer crop and do any fall planting for cold weather crops you may have.  This is also a good time to do a thorough weeding and cutting back of certain things.

Prepare your yard.
The summer decorations need to come in, and you can purge and organize them as you put them away.  Prepare to get your fall decor ready.  With your flower beds, you'll need to cut back certain things or pull out annuals that are ending their life cycle.  Do your research on what to do for certain perennials that need care in Fall.  Wash all your patio furniture, weed your yard, and do any minor repairs around the exterior of your home to get your house in tip top shape for the upcoming cooler weather.

Prepare your wardrobe.
You'll soon need to get your fall outfits ready and put aside your summer dresses and shorts.  Wash everything to make sure it's put away clean and ready to wear next Spring and Summer. Mend holes in anything that can be repaired and gather items for dry cleaning if you have any.  Check your Summer footwear for anything that needs repaired, clean, or donated/pitched. Don't forget to launder your bathing suits and pool towels.

Prepare your home.
Inside your home, do a thorough cleaning of windows both inside and out, look for any drafty areas that can be sealed up for the upcoming cooler weather, and consider doing a thorough dusting when you take down summer decor and prepare to put up fall decor.  Check your stock of light bulbs, air filters, etc.

 Prepare your finances.
The holidays will be here before you know it so get a plan in place to budget for holidays and to a quick glance over your monthly budget to see if there are any expenses you incurred in the Summer that you no longer need on a monthly basis.

I always do these things and even a fall clean out where I clean my entire home top to bottom and purge and organize along the way.  It feels good and it helps me mentally prepare for the transition to Fall without feeling as sad about losing Summer.
