Daily Habits to Start This Year

Wednesday, January 26, 2022

It's a new year and that means it's a great time to adopt some new daily or weekly habits.  A fresh start is a very refreshing feeling and honestly, it's a great time to take stock on your own life and your own habits.  Here are some daily habits that you can start practicing this year!

1. Journal
Journaling is a great way to be mindful, and to reflect on what is going on in your life and inside your head.  If you can just set aside a few minutes a day to do it, it can become a great habit that can actually help you when you feel stressed and just want to get some things out of your head.

2. Picking Up Trash
Make it a regular habit to pick up trash around your neighborhood, even just on your own tiny street.  It's great for the environment to pick up trash, and it can motivate others to do the same.

3. Create a Morning Routine
A morning routine is the first series of things you do to start your day and EVERYONE should have one.  Make a list of the things you need to do and want to do upon waking up, and keep it next to your bed so when you wake up in the morning you can read it and begin doing all of those things.  After a few weeks, you may not even need the list because it will all have become a habit!

4. Plan Meals
Instead of impulse buying delivery food, or scrambling to figure out what to eat for dinner, grab a piece of paper, and begin planning out your meals for the next week or two. Use this list to create your grocery list each week.  You can save money and eat healthier by being more organized and planning out future meals.

5. Clean for 20 Minutes Daily
Rather than letting it all accumulate so you are stressed out and have to take an entire day to clean your home, break it up into daily tasks.  Focus on one room each day, or one type of cleaning chore each day.  It will make a huge difference in your daily life.

6. Take Walks Year Round
Getting outside for fresh air is so important for your physical and mental health.  Make sure to take a walk everyday or every other day at a time that best suits you.  It's a great way to get out of your house, get fresh air, and get physical activity which is so important for your long term health.

7. Stretch
Stretching is important whether or not you are exercising regularly.  Stretch those muscles and let them breathe!  Take just 5 minutes at whatever time of day works best for you to practice some simple stretches.  You may even find that by the end of the year you are looking forward to it so much you start something like daily yoga to get your stretching in!

8. Unsubscribe
Every day, make it a habit to go through your emails and unsubscribe from anything you don't want.  This makes it so things don't get overwhelming in your inbox.  As soon as something comes in you don't care for, rather than just delete it, scroll to the bottom and look for an unsubscribe button.

9. Wipe your Counters
Wiping down your kitchen counters every single day (preferably at night after dinner) makes for a much cleaner and safer environment for you and your family.  It helps prevent clutter from building up on the counter as well.

Hopefully you can start trying some of these habits regularly in the new year!
