Staying healthy can be difficult, especially if your lifestyle is riddled with bad habits. It doesn’t end when you have reached your weight loss goal, it is also important to maintain it, and look after your health. This is more about the life that you live, as it will have a knock-on effect on your physical health (and the longevity of life) as well as your mental health. The better your healthy habits, the longer, and happier your life will be.

Here are some top tips to help you stay healthy and maintain your weight loss.
 
Be active

Being active is one of the best ways to stay healthy. It doesn’t have to be hours in the gym (unless that is what you enjoy), but can be anything from yoga, walking, hiking, running, swimming, high-intensity interval training, aqua aerobics, barre, or pilates. As long as you are moving your body, you are being healthy. Exercise can help reduce stress and anxiety, boost your mental health and your mood, improve muscle strength, and is good for your heart health. If you have just had surgery, make sure you are cleared to exercise.
 
Spend time with people

Socializing has more benefits than people may think. Being social can help fight off feelings of loneliness and low mood, which significantly impact your health if experienced regularly. It is also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, boost your mood and self-esteem, improve your cognitive skills, and much more. Spend time with friends or family, or join some local groups with people who have similar interests to you. If you struggle with this, you may consider a therapist, who you can confide in and help you to build your confidence.
 
Eat a well-balanced diet

Food is not only key to weight loss, but also in the way you think and feel. A good, well-balanced diet will consist of legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and lots of whole grains. This ensures your body gets a variety of nutrients and vitamins that fuel your body and give you energy, improve your gut health, and directly impact your mood. Food is also food for the brain, and you will feel a significant difference in health, and happiness when you are conscious about your food habits.
 
Get enough sleep

Your body uses the time you are asleep, to recover from the day and refuel. If you are not getting enough sleep, or perhaps suffer from restless or poor quality sleep, then you could be causing the stress, fatigue, and low moods you experience during the day. Sleep is key to being healthy, as well as feeling happy, losing weight, digesting your food properly, and many other parts of your life that you may not be aware of. Enough quality sleep will also lower your risk of developing health diseases, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, and diabetes.
