Returning to work is a nightmare, I know. Even if you’re hybrid like me, your in office days can be anything but productive. There are so many distractions and interruptions and your daily routine can be interrupted. Here’s how to create a calm environment so your in office days can be as productive as your telework days.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
I finally got a big pair of noise cancelling headphones and I can’t believe I waited so long. Even the hum of the building is quieted and I didn’t even know it was a thing before. It also signals to people that they should let me alone because I could be on a webinar or I’m focusing on something. I get SO much more work done when I make my own silence this way.
Minimal Distractions
I find I work better when I have less stuff all over my desk. I keep it very simple with what I bring to the office and back home. It all fits in my backpack and it’s easy and quick for me to unpack and pack up. I have the necessities and that’s it. I don’t need decorations and knick knacks because they just clutter up my workspace. Plus, I can work from any desk if I have everything fitting into my work bag.
Pack Food and Snacks
Always bring your own water bottle to encourage yourself to drink. Bring snacks – for morning and afternoon. Also make sure you pack a nutritious lunch but nothing too heavy that will make you groggy in the afternoon. Packing food keeps you productive, fueled, and saving money instead of choosing snacks from the vending machine.
Comfy Wardrobe
Make sure you wear comfortable things into the office from your shoes (especially if you have to walk to your building) to your coat. If you often get cold during the day, have a light sweater you can put on and take off when necessary.
Schedule Breaks
You can get burnt out fast in the office especially if you can’t stick with the same routine you have at home so make sure you schedule breaks where you can either leave your desk and get fresh air, catch up on social media, or just turn away from your computer and read a chapter of a book.
I hope these work for you like they do for me!
