Bracelets are one of the most delicate pieces of jewelry you can wear. And honestly, when you add this to where you wear them and the exposure they get when being worn, it's not hard to see why these special pieces can become damaged more often than other types of jewelry.

On your wrist, they can come into contact with many different variables, from being snagged on clothing, caught at times when doing everyday activities, they are at risk of being pulled off or succumbing to pressure. And while they are designed to withstand some daily activities, they are not indestructible.

And it's here that some simple tips can help you to protect your bracelets, keep them in wearable condition, and ensure they're ready to adorn your wrist whenever you need them to.

Check Clasp Before Wearing

Checking the clasp actually works prior to putting it on can save you from any instances of losing it as it's not secured properly. Over time, springs can weaken, clasps can become damaged, and closures don't click the way they once did. And suddenly, your bracelet isn't as secure as it once was.

A quick check before you wear it means you can assess its suitability for wear at that point and change your mind if you don't think it'll hold out, and more importantly, get it booked for repairs sooner rather than later.

Add a Safety Chain

Safety chains are your backup protection if your clasp fails. The chain attaches to the bracelet to cover the clasp. Then, if the clasp does fail for any reason or is accidentally opened, the safety chain means the bracelet stays attached better than without it, so you have less chance of losing it.

A gold filled bracelet safety chain for your gold bracelets, or silver, platinum, etc., can prevent unexpected loss from clasp failures or accidents that damage the clasp during wear.

Remove From High Friction Activities

One of the best ways to protect your bracelets is to remove them entirely when you're doing things that can damage or introduce excessive friction to the wearing experience. This might be during work hours if your hands come into contact with different items, i.e., stacking shelves in grocery stores or working on a construction site. Carrying grocery bags, working out at the gym, etc. All of these situations increase the risk of damage to the bracelet, and carefully removing it can help you protect it more easily.

Store Correctly

One of the best methods of protection for any item of jewelry is how you store it. Contact with other jewelry items means it's at risk of being scratched or tangled with necklaces, especially. You want to keep your bracelet in a soft pouch that protects all elements, including stones and clasps, from being in contact with other jewelry or items around the storage area. You can also use a bracelet stand — a soft, plush one works well. You simply thread the bracelet over it as you would when wearing it, space the bracelets out so they're not touching, and then they're elevated away from harm.
