Stylish Technology for Your Home

Tuesday, December 4, 2018

Technology has come a long way in the past few years, with everything from lamps to litter boxes connected to the Internet of Things. As you browse the technology section of the home improvement store, you may be wondering which options are a smart investment for your home. There are a few tech options that can save you money and improve the quality of your living. Check out these three essential items to improve the style and technology in your home.
Smart Lighting

More homeowners are starting to realize the benefits of smart lighting in their homes. They can turn on the lights from their smartphones, making it look like their home is occupied even if they're not there. This can help to prevent burglaries.

Smart lighting also makes it easy when you're inside the house. You no longer have to fumble around in the dark to find the light. Just hit a button on your smartphone, and your home is lit.

Smart lighting can also save you money. You can check on the lights remotely and turn off anything that shouldn't be on. That way, you're not paying to light your home when you're not there.

A Smart Thermostat
Along with smart lighting, a smart thermostat can also reduce your energy bills while keeping your home comfortable. Smart thermostats optimize the temperature to keep your home comfortable while saving money. You can also program them to turn on and off at specific times.

Are you tired of coming home to a freezing house but don't want to keep your heat on all day? Invest in a smart thermostat that warms your home 30 minutes before you arrive. This way, you walk into a warm house without driving up your electric bill.

A Smart Refrigerator
Investing in a smart refrigerator should be considered a money-saving step in your household, as well. Appliances like refrigerators make up an average of 30 percent of the energy consumption in your home. Not only that, but the number of homes with two or more refrigerators or freezers has increased from 14 percent to more than 30 percent since 1978. More families than ever open their refrigerators daily and go grocery shopping multiple times per week.

Smart refrigerators can reduce your energy bills by preventing you from constantly opening the door to check what is inside. They can also save you time and energy by adding items to your grocery list so you can cut back on grocery trips. Modern refrigerators also serve as a connection between families. They send notifications to people throughout the house, bringing people together for meal times. If you are in the market for a new refrigerator, consider upgrading to a smart appliance and see how it changes your life.

Nothing is more stylish than a comfortable home. You are sure to wow your guests with a comfortable, well-lit room from the moment they walk in. They will come for your decor and stay for their favorite brand of wine that you stocked up on in your smart refrigerator.

  2. You know, I have a smart plug that came with my Echo Show and it's still in the wrapper! You are inspiring me to find a way to use it around my house, Ellen, thanks! I do have a smart a/c window unit which is great - I leave it off all day and just turn it on from my phone about an hour before I leave work - perfect!
