Ways to Stay Active While Working From Home

Whether you work from home temporarily or permanently, one of the main challenges with working from home is being so sedentary for an entire work day.  So I put together some great ways to stay active while you work from home that pretty much anyone can do.

Take Walk Breaks
Use your breaks throughout the day to take walks even if it's just doing laps around your own yard.  It's important to get your heart pumping and your body moving.

Walk and Talk
Take a call from your cell phone or use a wireless headset so you can move around as you talk. I pace when I'm on the phone so this is always a better option for me then just staying planted in my chair.

Stretch Daily
Stretch and move your body at the end of the day, and during your lunch break.  When you sit hunched over staring at a screen it can bother your hands, arms, shoulder, and neck.  Look for office exercises online that you can do in your own home office!

Get Things Done on Slow Days
If you have a slow day, rather than sitting and staring at your computer waiting for something to happen, accomplish little things around the house like taking out the trash, washing the dishes, switching your laundry over, and wiping down surfaces.

Multitask
Sometimes you can kill two birds with one stone by combining tasks.  Take a conference call on your headset while organizing an office drawer.  Clean your windows as you wait for a meeting to start.  Watch a training while stretching or doing jumping jacks.  Get creative!

Walk Before Work
Nothing wakes you up more than a brisk 15 minute walk before you start your day, and since you don't have to worry about a commute, use that time to exercise.  You'll get your brain juices flowing as well!

How do you make an effort to be more active when working from home?
