A home that smells funky is no fun, but the good news is, your home never has to smell bad again, not if you follow these tips to ensure your home always smells amazing anyway…
Keep it clean
It’s obvious, but the cleaner your home is the less likely it is to trap unpleasant odors which can become nastier over time, so keep the palace clean and as clutter-free as possible.
Keep on top of pest control
If you live in a place where pest control can be a problem, make sure you have the number of a decent residential pest control service and that you schedule them to visit regularly. Pest urine and droppings can obviously smell pretty bad, so by eliminating the root cause, you can ensure that your home is always as fresh as possible.
Sprinkle baking soda on carpets
Before you vacuum your carpets, sprinkle liberally with baking soda, and maybe a few drops of your favorite essential oil (make sure it’s safe for pets if you have any) and leave for as long as possible. The baking soda will absorb any nasty smells while the essential oils will perfume the carpet, so when you vacuum it up, your home will be left smelling great every time.
Put essential oils in the air filter
Speaking of essential oils, placing a couple of drops in the HVAC system will ensure that the scent is distributed around your home for ultimate freshness. Citrussy oils are particularly good for this, but if you prefer lavender or peppermint, for example, they’re fine too.
Bake your own bread
Baking your own bread and cookies, instead of buying them at the store, is a really good way of making your home smell divine. The scent of the baked goods will drift through the property tantalizing anyone who happens to be around and eliminating any less pleasant smells in the process. It will also typically be healthier for you to eat fresh baked goods than store-bought ones too, so that’s a nice little added benefit.
Keep the garbage disposal clean
The garbage disposal is a prime cause of bad smells in many homes, which is why you should be cleaning it as regularly as possible. A good trick for doing this more effectively is to freeze orange and lemon peels in an ice cube tray with water. You can then toss them down the disposal and as it does itas thing, the fresh citrusy aroma will be released into your home.
Cook vanilla extract
A really good way to have your home smelling amazing in a hurry, perhaps because you have guests coming over, is to pour a couple of tablespoons of vanilla extract into an oven-safe dish and bake it at around 300 degrees for an hour or so. The whole house will be engulfed with that sweet vanilla scent for hours to come and you will love it.
As you can see, it’s actually pretty simple to ensure that your home always smells amazing, so what are you waiting for?
