Help Fight Toxins with Seventh Generation #FightToxins #MC

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Millennial Central for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating.

I don't know about you but I'm a bit upset when I learned that more than 80,000 chemicals available in the United States have NEVER been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment.  80,000!!    This is a big deal because scientists have actually linked things like Cancer, Alzheimer's, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and reproductive problems to the exposure of these toxic chemicals.

In 1976 there was a law passed called the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) but unfortunately it hasn't been updated since then!    So that means right now there are thousands of potentially harmful chemicals that continue to be used since then without proper testing or disclosure from the company.

I find that to be a huge disappointment.   You can learn more at the Natural Resources Defense Council Website

This hits close to home for me because I know a few people that are suffering from terrible illnesses and some of them believe it was caused by harmful chemicals.  I'm already super careful with what products I use around the house because of my 4 dogs!

So in an effort to raise awareness and get involved there are a few things you can do.

First, you can become a Toxin Freedom Fighter simply by signing the petition by Seventh Generation to urge Congress to reevaluate the TSCA.

You can also educate parents and the general public about the 80,000 synthetic chemicals put into the market since the act was passed.   And make sure they know that the EPA has only required testing on less than 10% of those.

And finally you can help Seventh Generate reach their goal of collecting 100,000 signatures by April 24th.  Just sign the petition for chemical reform and urge your friends and family to sign it also!

I think it's really important to help protect ourselves and our loved ones by getting the act reevaluated so we don't have to be exposed to harmful toxic substances!   And that's basically why I have teamed up with Seventh Generation to help spread awareness through this blog post!

I really hope that it can become mandatory for the EPA to test all of these substances before products containing them come out on the market.  I also hope that there will be more public notices warning that a possible toxic substance has been used and could harm the general public (Cleaning in a public restroom, etc.) so that we can avoid certain places and the chemicals being used on them.

When I shop for cleaning products I always opt for all natural ones with no harmful ingredients.  I always look for a note telling me the product was EPA tested or certified.  I never let my dogs out around cleaning products when I'm using them, even if they do say that they are safe.

So please join me and sign the petition like I did and let's take a huge step towards a healthier life for everyone!
