Earth Day and Your Health

Earth Day is coming up, but one part of it that many people don't really think about is how it relates to YOUR personal health.  So today, in honor of Earth Day coming, I wanted to just explain a few ways that celebrating Earth Day everyday can benefit you in the aspect of your health.

Being mindful of what you put in and on your body.
When you are purchasing things whether it's food, makeup,  craft supplies, or cleaning products, and you try to cut back on the really harsh chemicals and ingredients because it's bad for the planet, remember it's also better for you.  Breathing in nasty ingredients in the stuff we use can harm us in the long run and so by purchasing eco-friendly products and materials, we can also feel great that we are exposing ourselves to safer ingredients on a day to day basis.

Spending time outdoors.
To give back to the planet, you may choose to garden and plant native plants in your yard, pick up litter, or even prune unhealthy trees and shrubs.  By doing that, you're getting active and OUTDOORS! Fresh air is in full supply when you step out of your home.  Let the sun hit your face, take in the scenes around you as you work, and keep moving.  I burn a lot of calories doing yard work so I actually enjoy having to do it.  It's a win-win.

Green benefits.
When you spend time in nature giving back by tending to neglected parks, littered streets, and even your own gardens,  you're spending time around plants.  Plants have so many health benefits to us whether we're breathing in air cleaned by them, or using them medicinally.  Learn about the plants native to your area and how to safely find them.  Use them for cooking, treating ailments, and whatever ways you can find.  I love foraging for things every Spring and seeing what I can learn about each new native plant and what I can use it for.

Mental health.
Sometimes the act of earthing (placing your bare feet in the grass) can just give you a mental reset.  Sometimes you need to just get out of the house, find a quiet spot in your yard, and just chill out.  I feel so great after I do this.  There's a lot to learn about the practice of earthing so check out my blog post on what earthing is and how to do it!  Plus being outside and connecting with nature in any way, is a very sacred experience.  If you know, you know.

Hopefully you celebrate Earth Day this year (Friday, April 22nd, 2022) by doing some things that benefit the planet AND yourself.
