My Favorite Herbs to Grow

Tuesday, May 12, 2026

Herbs are so fun for me to grow each year because they do really well on their own and I can put them all over my garden beds and yard. Here are my favorite herbs to grow!Basil
I love basil because it can help keep pests away from other plants. It smells great and it tastes SO GOOD fresh. My favorite thing in Summer is to run outside in the middle of preparing dinner and grabbing fresh basil! I usually buy my basil plants from a local nursery in early Spring.

Lavender
I don't really too much with it but the pollinators absolutely love it and what started as 4 tiny plants from the nursery has turned into enormous bushes that form a little border in my side garden bed.  It looks great, smells great, and also is the perfect tiny addition to fill in a bouquet.

Chives & Scallions
I love these because they are easy to dry and use throughout the year but they taste best fresh so I have them around multiple garden beds in my yard and whenever I need some I go out and clip them fresh off the plant!

Oregano
Oregano is SO low maintenance and mine comes back each year bigger and better so I don't have to do much except harvest and trim throughout the growing season. It tastes great fresh on different meals and the pests don't seem to care for it at all.

Rosemary
I love rosemary because it's easy to grow and it smells amazing. I have some in my gardens but other times I keep it in containers around the yard.  Sometimes I use it in food or to add to a bouquet of fresh blooms from the yard but mostly I just love looking at it when I check out my garden beds everyday.
