4 Summer Hairstyles

Wednesday, July 17, 2019

So I kind of stink at doing my own hair but I did come up with a few hairstyles for the summer that are super easy. These are great for when the weather is sticky and gross and you want to look cute but still keep your hair out of your face!

Half Up in a Messy Topknot

So this is my go to hairstyle for 2nd day old hair, especially when it's starting to get flat or greasy.  Not only is it great for keeping your hair out of your face when you sweat or when you're active but it also lets enough hair down that you feel cute if you're heading out in public.  I speak from experience!
How to do it:
Make a square shape at the top of your head and pull all the hair in that square up.
Pull it 2 times through a ponytail holder.
On the third pull, only pull it through 2/3rds of the way.
Start to twist your loose hair around the base of your ponytail and slip some of it under the holder.

Half Up in a Bow Shape
This is a fun way to style your hair if it's thick or longer.  The bow shape is beautiful and makes your face look longer.
How to do it:
Follow the steps above to section your hair in a square shape.
Pull your hair through a ponytail holder twice.
On the 3rd pull, put it half way through and twist the bun so the loose hair comes out at the bottom.
Now pull at the bun to make both sides bigger.
Take some of the loose strands and pull them over the bun (creating a center part through the bow).
Pull some loose strands of baby hair out around your face to soften the look.

Half Pinned Back
This is a nice style for a formal event.  I get my hair out of my face but keep a soft look and can either pin the hair back or put it in a small bun.
How to do it:
Just pull the hair above your brow line straight back and make a simple ponytail or bun.  You can pin and tuck the loose hair into the bun with bobby pins.

Front Braid
This is another great way to keep your hair out of your face, or hide the greasiness of 2 day old hair.  I have no clue how to french braid and I'm not sure if that's what I'm doing when I do this or not, but oh well.
How to do it:
Make a rectangle section of hair from your part to your ear.
Separate your hair into three sections.
Begin to braid but each time you make a braid, grab a chunk of hair from outside the rectangle.
Pin it back behind your ear or use a tiny hair tie.

You can also pull your hair back after doing this style.
