How To Regain Control Of Your Body When You're Having An Anxiety Attack

Thursday, March 4, 2021

Anxiety is extremely unpleasant, especially if you’re having anxiety attacks on a regular basis. It can creep up on you from out of nowhere, and the feeling of anxiousness can last for hours, if not days on end. Arguably one of the worst symptoms of anxiety is not having control over your body and the way you’re feeling. If you’ve been feeling anxious for some time and you’re unable to handle your anxiety attacks, it’s important to remember that you should speak to your GP as your first port of call. However, a professional might not always be readily available, and it’s a good idea to have some calming methods ready so that if you’re experiencing a particularly bad anxiety attack, you can regain control and ride out the storm. Here are some tips on how to do exactly that!

Distraction is key

The most tried and tested method to help you ride out an anxiety attack and take back control of your feelings is by distracting yourself. Find something to do that will occupy your mind such as watching your favourite TV programme or film, texting a friend, reading a book, or picking up the phone and chatting to your family. All of these things and more can help distract you and cut out those feelings of anxiousness. The sooner your brain realises you’re not in danger, the sooner the attack will ease.

Take supplements and vitamins

Anxiety can come from a wide range of places, and if you’re not taking proper care of your body, your anxiety attacks might be your body’s way of telling you there’s something wrong. Anxiety comes from a chemical imbalance in the brain, so taking supplements and vitamins can help restore this balance and therefore reduce your anxiety, and the frequency of it. CBD is well known for its calming properties and may be a great way to keep yourself calm even in the most anxious of times. You can buy good quality CBD in forms of gummies or vape liquid from reputable sites like Bay Smokes. Remember, if you are going to use CBD, it’s always best to spend a little more from a reputable source.

Cut back on junk food

Did you know that junk food can also upset the chemical balance in your brain? While your diet may not be the only cause of your anxiety, gorging on junk food certainly won’t do you any favours either. Try and pack your diet full of nutritious food and drinks so that you can reduce your anxiety, and improve your health in general.

Confide in a loved one

Talking to a loved one about your fears and anxieties can be scary, but it really can help! Chat to a trusted loved one about your experiences - it can really help get things off your chest! Not only that, but your loved one may even be able to provide you with some stories of their own experiences, and also some other tips and tricks that have helped them! Don’t let anxiety rule your life!
