Getting your Kids Outside when in an RV

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

If you know that you are due to go on a big RV trip, then you will know how exciting this can be. At the same time, you do need to make sure that you’re not overlooking how difficult it can be to sometimes get your kids outside. If you find that they are happier inside, or if you want to make sure that you are helping them to make the most out of their time, then this is the guide for you.

Geocaching

Geocaching is a great way for you to get your kids excited about being able to spend their time outdoors. It also means they don’t have to leave their tech behind either. The great thing about activities like this is that it allows them to find real-world treasure, and it also means that they can explore the area at their own pace. A lot of the time, you can use a phone or another type of device as a way to explore different areas. If you want to get the most out of geocaching, it’s wise to book in at a local RV park. When you do, you can feel good knowing that you are going to be close to a lot of attractions, and that you can also have a home base to relax. You can power your RV as well, while having access to local clubs when your kids aren’t out and about. Things like this can make a big difference to you and your trip, so it’s worth thinking about that.

Scavenger Hunts

Another thing you may want to give some thought to is taking your kids on a scavenger hunt. This is a great way for you to try and create a checklist of items you want them to find, and you can also guide them on where to go as well. You can download a list of items to find online, or you can even come up with a list of things yourself, if you have an idea of the route you want your kids to take. If you want to allow them to use tech, then you can even sync your treasure hunt up, which would be great.

Go on a Hike

If you want to make the most out of your trip, then going on a hike is a great thing to do. You can explore all the hiking trails in the area, or you can go and get some exercise if you want. This is a great way for you to get out and about, and it is also a good way for you to get your kids moving. If you’re not that used to hiking, then it could be wise for you to try and use a GPS to find out where to go, so be mindful of that, and then download a trial map. This is the best way to have a positive family hike where you understand the route, but still leaves plenty of room for adventure.
