Tuesday, March 17, 2026

Do you know that you’re not putting your mental health first? Maybe you feel as though there are changes to make, but at the same time, you just don’t know where to begin. Either way, if this sounds like you, then now is the time for you to take a step forward and start looking forward to a brighter future.

Take a Break

The first thing you need to do if you feel as though you are struggling with your mental health is take a break. If you are feeling stressed by a situation, then taking a break is one of the best things you can do. A change of scene can help you to relax and it can also help you to alleviate any negative feelings you may be experiencing. When on your break, it’s so important that you do something you love. Try to make time to do something you like on a regular basis, whether it’s cooking, or even sitting down with your favourite TV show. You should also try and get in touch with a friend if you feel as though this would be beneficial to you. If you can do this then you will notice a big difference to your mental health, and you may even find that you end up being able to bounce back sooner.

Try and Manage Stress

Try and make time to manage your stress too. If you are under a lot of pressure, you may begin to feel overwhelmed, or even out of control. Stress can also lead to physical effects on your body. If you want to avoid stress then one of the best things you can do is focus on what is happening, right now. It may be that you focus on your senses, and that you also become more mindful. You can use breathing techniques or even meditation if you want, because when you do, you can then pay more attention to your senses while doing the things that you love each day. If you can, focus on the thoughts you are having in the present moment, as it’s easy to become overwhelmed with your feelings sometimes. With that said, if you try and manage them, you can take back control.

Eliminate Bad Habits

Eliminating bad habits is another good thing to do. If you can try to take the time to eliminate any bad habits, then this will help you to not only feel better about yourself, as it will also help you to take back control of the situation. Making a self-care kit can help here, so when you feel the urge, you have a healthy alternative. If you can’t get yourself to the gym, do some push-ups at home, or get a yoga mat out. If you want a takeaway, buy a meal kit instead, as this is way easier to cook and it also avoids you having fatty foods. If you know that you smoke when you are stressed, vaping can be a good alternative, as it means you can avoid a lot of the negative and bad ingredients but still practice some self-love. There are different types of vapes out there, and some are convection or conduction, so taking the time to understand the two will help you to make better decisions that go on to benefit you later down the line.

Do Something Creative

Doing something creative is a good thing to do. You may find that it’s helpful for you to do something creative, like drawing or even going out with your camera. This is a good way for you to try to avoid yourself from getting distracted by negative thoughts all the time. If you can get creative, then you may find that this is both calming and rewarding, which is always a good thing. If you can also make sure that you spend some time in nature where possible, such as going out with your camera, or even having a BBQ, then this will help you a lot too. Small things can make a big difference to you here, so make sure that you prioritise them and that you take steps to try and look after your wellbeing where possible. Sometimes, focusing on the small things can be the best thing to do, so try to be mindful of that, and also make sure that you are getting out in nature, as this will again help you to focus on the positive things in your life rather than the negative.
