My Favorite Self Care Activities

Monday, March 2, 2026

I love tending to myself and I have made self care part of my regular routine. On Sundays especially I designate it a self care Sunday where I reserve the right to say no to anything and spend the day however I wish. Here are my favorite self care activities whether it’s for a whole day or just fitting it in for an hour or two.

Reading
I read A LOT. I love it. I read every chance I get. People ask how I am able to read so many books and I simply tell them that instead of aimlessly scrolling my phone in my downtime, I read. Even if it’s just a chapter at a time, I get my fix in. When I have a whole weekend with nothing to do I often go to the library and check out half a dozen or more books and just binge them back to back.

Documentaries
I love watching all kinds of TV and movies but I really enjoy documentaries so I often will either watch them on YouTube or one of my streaming services. I learn a lot from documentaries so I feel like it’s a good investment of my time.

Detailed Grooming
Sometimes I do self care with a face mask, eye masks, or I just do little obnoxious tasks like waxing, painting my toenails, etc. In the summer I get professional pedicures as self care and as a runner it’s nice to have someone else tending to my calluses but for the most part, when I take care of myself with grooming for self care it’s the little tasks that we’re often in too much of a rush to take the time for.

Aimless Scrolling
Don’t judge me but my favorite way to unwind is scrolling aimlessly on TikTok and laughing my face off at videos. In fact, despite the rule being to stay off your phone an hour or so before bed so it doesn’t stimulate you to stay awake, I do the opposite. Every night at 8 pm I post up on the couch, lay down, and scroll TikTok. By 9 I’m getting sleepy and I’ll switch to some ASMR videos on TikTok or YouTube to put me to sleep. It’s my little thing and I do to unwind at the end of the day and I love it.

Purging Items
For me personally, getting rid of things I own that I don’t need is SUCH a rewarding feeling. So sometimes I will just open a drawer, dump everything out, purge, and reorganize. I LOVE doing this. It’s definitely a productive form of self care for me.

Sitting Outside
I practically live in my screened in porch in the warm months – I work, read, and nap in it. But sometimes I just sit out on the patio with the sun on my face, close my eyes, and just listen to the sounds of nature. I often let the dogs out on the patio with me and even when it’s late Fall or late Winter, if it’s warm enough, you’ll find us out on the patio for a little bit just getting some sunshine and fresh air.

Self care looks different to everyone and this is just what I do to recharge myself. What are your favorite self care tasks?
