Spring is here and it’s a good time not just spring clean your home but also your finances which means it’s time to take a look at your budget. Here’s some tips to spring clean that budget!
Update Expenses
If there is anything you don’t have accounted for that you pay regularly, this is the time to add it to your budget. That means check all your account statements and receipts to ensure you didn’t miss anything and that there aren’t any sneaky annual subscriptions you may have forgotten to account for.
Cut Expenses
Now you need to look at every single thing you spend money on. Are there subscriptions you don’t use that can be cancelled? Are you spending way too much in one category and it needs reduced? This is the operating room part of your budget cleanout where you take a deep look at all the working parts and then decide what to snip and cut off.
Account for Savings
Are there goals you have in mind for this year or the future you want to designate money for each month? Now is the time to add those in and figure out how to fund them. Again, you may need to cut some expenses in order to designate what’s saved to go towards a savings goal.
Create a No Spend Challenge
If you are spending money you shouldn’t be you may need to put yourself on a buying ban and make sure you aren’t spending money unless it’s necessary on that budget category.
Hopefully these quick tips help you get back on track for the remainder of the year!
