10 Stunning Home Decor Ideas You Need To Know

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

One of the things that I am passionate about has to be home decor. Making your house feel comfortable for everybody is an excellent thing to do. When you have some free time, you can spend the day sprucing up your home and giving it a little makeover. It doesn't have to cost you loads of money. In fact, you can make small changes to your house for next to nothing. Here are some stunning home decor ideas you need to know about before you start.

1. Install under the stairs storage

One thing that most people find to be a pain is storage. When you have a family, it can be a nightmare trying to find enough places to put things away. If you have that problem, you can use the space underneath your stairs as extra storage. Often, that space goes to waste. Don't let that happen. It is simple to convert the space into a storage area.

2. Fill out fireplaces with decorations

If you have an empty fireplace, you might find that it lets a cold breeze into your home. One way of solving that problem if to fill the space with something. You can use old logs or little decorations to fill the space. That will make the entire area look more ornate and will impress people when they see it. Choose pieces that suit the rest of your decor so that it looks as though you planned it.

3. Make a hammock for your hallway

Who doesn't want a hammock in their hallway? If you want a place in which you and your family can relax, a hammock is ideal. All you need is a decorative sheet and some rope to create a hammock for your house. This small DIY project will not take you all that long, but it will look fantastic in your home. Ensure that the rope is safe before you let anyone climb into the sheet. Otherwise, you could find that you have an accident.

4. Use color in your kitchen

Most people decorate their kitchen in dull colors, such as beige or blue. Forget that. Instead, you want to decorate your kitchen in bright colors so that it looks attractive. Don't worry about whether the color will make the kitchen look smaller than it is. So long as you have natural daylight coming into the room, you should not have an issue with it looking spacious. You can paint three walls in a typical color, such as white, and then paint one statement wall in a bold color.

5. Spruce up old antiques

If you want your home to look unique and rustic, it is time to hit the antique stores. You can find loads of hidden gems in thrift shops and antique dealers. Once you have found what you are looking for an antique moving service in Chicago will help you bring stuff to your house. You can spruce up old items to give them a vintage feel. For example, if you have an old wardrobe, you can sand it down and paint it a new color. Pay attention to the original detail so that you keep the characteristics of the piece.

6. Match your decor and flowers

If you have a central theme running through a room, you should choose flowers to match that color. For example, if you have a room with a lot of orange in it, you should consider getting some orange flowers to complete the display. Few people bother to buy bouquets of flowers for their homes these days. That in itself is a real shame because fresh plants look incredible in every house. They also make your home smell amazing, which is a bonus.

7. Paint your exterior walls

If the outside of your house looks dirty, you need to sort that out as soon as possible. Home decor is not just about designing the interior of your home; it is also about ensuring the exterior looks great. Be daring and paint the outside walls of your house in a bright color, such as red, orange or green. Using a bold color will attract attention to your home and make you the envy of your neighbors.

8. Frame old postcards to make a wall display

If you have many postcards from friends and family, you can use them as decorations in your home. Much of the time, people throw out postcards, which is a shame. These cards, usually, have some beautiful scenes on them and so they make excellent decorations. You can get mini frames for your postcards and hang them in your hallway. Why not dedicate an entire wall to postcards from around the world? This unique idea will make your home decor personal to you. I am sure that your friends will love that you have used the postcard they sent you.

9. Have your kids decorate their room

If your children keep asking you to let them decorate their room, you should let them do it. Most parents tell their children that they can't paint their bedroom because they think that they will ruin it. So long as you supervise your kids, you should have no problem creating a lovely space for them. Listen to your kids ideas and see what they want to do. Children often have super creative ideas when it comes to home decor.

10. Make name cards for everybody's doors

As a finishing touch to your home decor, you might want to create some name cards to put on everybody's door. Making little signs for everybody is a fantastic way to add a personal touch to your home. If you want to get crafty, you can buy some card online and decorate it yourself. You should laminate each card before you hang it on people's doors. That way, you can be sure that the signs will last a long time and won't tear. You could even get the entire family involved and have them decorate their door signs. Look for inspiration online before you start this project.
