Our New Home: Should We Buy... Or Build?

Thursday, September 5, 2019

It's one of those debates many people have when they have the money. Should you build or buy your home? There are cases for both sides, so let's break it down, and see which is the best one for you.

To Build

While it doesn't have the same sort of convenience as buying a home, there are so many different personal touches you can add. When you are styling your home you can do it exactly as you see fit. As such, when we think about building our own home we've got to have a very specific image in mind. The great thing is that when you choose an architect or builder, this can help to shape the process. There are plenty of builders out there now, ParkerBuilt Homes is one that works with you to help. One of the great things is that if you join an existing development, this makes life easier for you. But also, when it comes to building your own home, you've got to find a lot of these things yourself. For example, you have got to find the land, and you've got to choose every single element of the new structure. If you are someone that doesn't really know what they want, this can prove to be time-consuming and frustrating. On the other hand, making a new home has reduced concerns in relation to health, for example with toxic materials like lead paint or asbestos. And on the other hand, while costs can be higher, it is a great investment. If you decide to build your home to sell it on, this can be an enticing prospect.

Buying Your Home

Most of us have an idea of the process that encompasses buying a home. Financially speaking, it is more convenient. When you want to customize your home, building is a better bet. But if you look at the properties out there, and you really don't know what you want, then you've got a far more diverse palette to choose from. Usually, it's cheaper to buy a home that has already been built, but when you look at the type of home you want or there are changes you want to make to an existing property, this could increase the overall cost. It's important to get a mortgage calculator as well, so you can get a good understanding of the interest rates. Buying your home is less hassle, especially if you want to move somewhere quickly. An existing home can be a better option in terms of your personal life. For example, if you want to be closer to work, schools, or family, these areas will have homes ready and waiting. As well as this, the landscaping is already there. So if you want to create a garden, you don't necessarily have to nurture it from the ground up, literally.

It all depends if you have the time, inclination, as well as the money. Because building your own home can be a labor of love, but purchasing one is easier; you have got to decide which is the best for you. There are veritable pros and cons with both. Ultimately, they boil down to two things, time and money.
