How To Be A Better Human on Earth Day

Today is Earth Day!!  That means it's a day to show support for environmental protection and conservation.   But what exactly does that mean and how can you give back to this awesome planet that has sustained your life? Well, here are a few ways to celebrate Earth Day on a small scale.

1. Pick up trash in your neighborhood.  There's no excuse not to do this.  If you take a walk everyday, why not bring along a little baggie and throw any litter you find in it.

2. Plant a tree.  Go to the nursery, choose a tree and add to the landscaping of your backyard.

3. Plant some bee-friendly flowers. Every nursery has a selection of bee friendly flowers.  So whether you start from seed or you actually add some flowers to the pots around your yard, you're going to do a great thing for the bees, who in turn will pollinate your veggie garden.

4. Start a vegetable garden.  It's very rewarding to grow and consume your own food.
5. Start using a reusable water bottle or a faucet water filter instead of buying plastic bottles of water.

6. Go meatless at least 1-2 days a week.
7. Stop junk mail.  It's a waste of paper.  Visit EcoCycle to learn how to opt out.
8.Bring your own bags to the grocery store.
9. Be more diligent when it comes to rinsing out the food containers you recycle.
10. Start grouping your errands all at once instead of running out various times throughout the week or weekend and wasting more gas.

11. Instead of driving to the gym, go on a jog in your own neighborhood.

How are you going to give back?

  1. I do all my errands in one day. That the only way I get them done.
