Making the Most of Remote Working with Ladder Advisors

Saturday, April 4, 2020

Times are tough right now and if you have a job that requires you to work remotely from home, it can be quite a difficult adjustment.  Today I wanted to share some tips on how to make the most of remote working so you can have some routine, organization, and be able to focus on your job.

Establish a schedule and routine.

It's important to do your daily tasks just as you would if you were in a physical business location.  Make a schedule for the week of what projects you'll focus on and on which days of the week.  Make sure to track assignments and projects carefully, especially if you're collaborating with others. Having a routine and task lists can also help you feel more accomplished at the end of each day which is very important at a time when we feel like we're trapped at home with a very blurred line between work and home.

Keep busy.
It's crucial to keep working as you normally would and keep planning for the future as best you can. Productivity can go out the window if you are too distracted by things going on in your home so make sure you are keeping distractions out of the way.  If you are struggling to stay on task, make sure you take some breaks throughout the day to let your mind rest.  Sometimes stepping away from what you're doing lets you come back more focused than before.  Also, don't skip meals.  Breakfast and lunch are important to fuel your brain and body.  Taking care of your health should always be a priority.

Set up a nice space.
Make sure you have a separate room or workspace for your home office.  There should be no distractions and you should have plenty of space for you to do paperwork and have video meetings.  If you have a family in your home, ensure they know to keep quiet and not disturb you during work hours. Make sure you have good lighting and a comfortable place to sit to work.  Sitting outside is nice but can also be distracting and the outdoor noises can make it hard to concentrate and hear others when on a phone call.

Stay in contact with colleagues.

It's especially important to touch base with your colleagues throughout the week.  A regular check in conference call or video chat is a great idea.  There should also be plenty of ways to track what each person is doing and any struggles they may have in this new work scenario.  Image Here.
