How I Made a Winter Capsule Wardrobe for Return to Office

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

So I’m no longer full time teleworking and now have to be back in the office a couple times each week. It had been QUITE a long time since I had a true work wardrobe other than what I needed to go in once a month. Here’s how I created my own little winter capsule wardrobe for returning to the office.

First, I started with a goal of how many outfits I would need. If I’m in twice a week that’s about 8 times each month so I knew I could get away with 8 outfits that I rotate during the cold weather months.

Then, I went and looked at what I already had that could work. I had 1 sweater dress that would definitely work but I had to buy several more. Now I have 5 sweater dresses to wear with leggings one day each week when I’m in the office.

Next, I looked at what I had that no longer fit and in my case that’s black work pants. So I went on the hunt to find a new pair. I ended up buying two – 1 straight legged looser fitting pair and a tighter fitting flare pair. So that means I just needed 4 tops to wear with them so that I have a sweater dress and a pants/shirt combo for each week in the office.

I also had to evaluate my undergarments and let me tell you I was in dire need of bras. I found something similar to those viral TikTok jelly bras and they are AMAZING so I have one of each – a nude and a black.

And finally, I marked the items in my closet that are part of my work capsule. They have little blue card stock tags hanging on the hanger so I can easily grab them or know exactly what to search through when I’m making an outfit.

Remember – you can wear the same outfits on a rotating basis. I technically could have gotten away with only 4 different outfits that I rotate on a biweekly basis but I wanted some decent winter clothing anyways even for outside of work.
