Our health is always going to be important to us, no matter what age we are. So making sure that we have a good health in our lives is crucial. However, there are habits in life that may be impacting negatively on our health and wellbeing. And to help you to live a long and happy life here’s five habits that might not be good for you.

Working Too Hard

We all have to work to earn a living, and it can be very rewarding to achieve great things through your career. However, a lot of stress and exhaustion can come from working too hard. When you’re starting out in a role or with a new company, there will always be that need to impress. The same goes for when you’ve become very established within your role, it can be hard to say no to things, especially when they come from your boss. However, it’s important to note just how much you’re able to take on. Taking on too much and working too hard is going to leave you constantly run down, no matter how well you take care of yourself outside of work or how much sleep you manage to get each night. Working hard can be mentally tiring, and so it’s good to practice saying no. It’s easier to say yes but harder to say no. It doesn’t show a sign of weakness but instead shows that you know yourself and how well you can work under various amounts of pressure.

Smoking And Drinking

These two pretty much go hand in hand as they’re both a poison for the body. They are also two things that will be offered in social situations so it can be quite hard to remove yourself from them completely. Smoking can quickly become an addiction and not only is it expensive, but it can certainly impact on your health further down the line. If you’ve been smoking for a while, it might be an idea to consider alternatives to smoking that may help either ween yourself off them or at least be a little healthier. Drinking is just as hard to keep in moderation, especially when it gets to the busier times of the year, where everyone in your friendship group is inviting you out for a drink. Try to be more conscious of how much you’re drinking and to help with your weight, opt for drinks that are less calorific. Drinking isn’t great for your mental health, so don’t turn to it when you’re upset or feeling low as this will only make those feelings worse.

Lack Of A Sleep Routine

Sleep is important for our bodies to maintain the usual energy levels so that we can function on a daily basis. Without sleep, your body won’t repair and recover in its usual way, and that can only have a negative impact on your overall health. A proper sleep routine is something that’s needed and should be stuck to as often as possible. Find a point in the evening, which signals to your body that it’s time for bed. This might be putting on your pajamas at a certain time or brushing your teeth half an hour before going to bed. Following this rule each night will trigger your body into relaxing and unwinding, which should make falling asleep a lot easier. If you struggle to fall asleep in general, wearing an eye mask to block out the light and using sprays or oils in a diffuser can help relax the mind and body.

Too Much Time Spent On Social Media

Social media has definitely changed the way we view the world and more importantly, how we interact with one another. We can now follow complete strangers as they navigate through lives that seem perfect in comparison to their own. But in reality, everyone is showing the best version of themselves and not the bad side. Instead, they keep it out of existence, and that can be very damaging for those who scroll through their feeds. Spending too much time on social media can certainly be bad for your health, and if you want to take care of your mental wellbeing, it’s a good idea to switch off from social media every now and again. Regulate the amount of time you spend each day on it and if it’s getting too much, take a detox.

No Fitness

Exercising, although can often feel like a chore, is a very important feature in your life because we all need it to feel and look our best. You should be getting at least twenty minutes of exercise per day, and if that’s not happening, this may lead to weight gain and your body’s vital organs won’t be getting the best treatment. Look for something that is exciting when working out, and it will feel less like a chore and something you enjoy. If it helps, work out with friends or pay for a personal trainer who will give you that additional motivation you need to keep going. Fitness is important at any age, and especially as you get older, your body isn’t getting any younger! Your metabolism isn’t the same, and with a busier lifestyle, you need all the energy you can get your hands on.

Hopefully, paying attention to bad habits can help you get back to your normal healthy self both in body and mind. Be mindful not to work too hard and to say no when things get out of hand. Cut down on any smoking and drinking and ensure you’re getting a good night’s sleep. And don’t forget to give yourself a break from social media every now and then. As much as it can be fun to look at, it can be very toxic if you’re not in the right frame of mind. So switch off when it gets to that point and spend time with people in the real world.
