Why You Should Take Care of Your Smile (And How)

Saturday, July 11, 2020

Your smile aka your mouth, lips, and teeth are the first thing anyone sees when they look at your face.  In fact, it's the first thing you see when you look at yourself aside from your bedhead hairstyle in the morning.  It's where you speak from, how you eat, and how you show facial expressions.  So it goes without saying that you should always protect and take care of your smile and today I'm going to tell you how and why.

When you're going to be in harsh climates like out in the sun or out in the wind or snow, it's important to wear a lip balm that has an SPF protector in it.  There's nothing more unsightly and painful that chapped chafing lips.   And of course if you play sports, you should always wear a mouth guard or other protective gear.  Not only is it costly to get your broken teeth repaired but it's embarrassing.

Brushing your teeth is another great way to take care of your smile.  Not only can it make your teeth look better but it helps prevent cavities and plaque build up.  You should brush your teeth in the morning and at night and anytime you can feel that icky film on your teeth. Flossing is just as important too and trust me when I say that you should always carry floss with you because you never know when someone will point out the piece of food stuck to your teeth.

Eating and drinking right is a key to good oral hygiene.  Avoid sticky things and hard candies.  Don't overindulge in soda as it can actually eat away at your enamel.  I mean, just look at what it can do to polish coins.  And, I guess I should mention that you shouldn't open things with your teeth.  Seriously, people chip their teeth all the time from trying to open a new product with their mouth!!!

Avoid smoking and other tobacco products as they can cause oral cancer and they can give you an icky discolored film on your teeth. Then you have to invest money in whitening your teeth again.
Cosmetic surgery is another important thing you can do. Some people have had work done in the past but you should always talk to a cosmetic dentist about other issues like if your teeth seem to crowded, one is chipped, etc.  You should budget for the cost before your procedure so you're well prepared. Muscaro and Martini Dentistry, (cosmetic dentistry Tampa), offers clients a way to get a healthy smile that also looks great.

Some people seem to neglect facial care for themselves and honestly, using the right skincare products in the area around your mouth is very important to keep up with wrinkles, laugh lines, and anything else.  It's never too late to look for products to use NOW to help prevent the unsightly lines in the future.

Self esteem is an important thing and it's so hard to be proud of yourself when you can't even stand your bad oral hygiene or dental issues.
