Are you in the process of wanting to sell your home? There may be several factors and reasons as to why you are giving up your home. You might be wanting to buy a new one, due to upsizing or downsizing. You might need the extra room due to a growing family. You might even be relocating due to work or family.

Whatever the reason for selling your home there are certain things you must do before you can contact the realtor and get it on the market.

Get Your Stuff In Order

Before you can open your house to viewings you need to make sure it is appealing and easy on the eye. This can seem like a daunting task but it isn’t too difficult. When potential buyers come to look around they need to be able to envision their own belongings rather than just being able to see yours. Clear out any clutter and open up the spaces you have within your home. Show off your storage.

One of the most sought-after properties are ones with ample storage and big spaces. When you clear out your items this makes your home appear larger than it is.

Clean Everything

Once you have decluttered it is important you take the time to clean your home top to bottom. This ensures you get rid of all the dirt and dust that has built up over the years of living there. It is easy to miss dust during weekly cleans, so it takes a thorough clean to get rid of it.

Make sure you focus on the kitchen and bathroom when making your way through your home. Make them sparkle and ensure there is no black mold around the sides of the bath or sink. If you have hardwood flooring this should be swept, mopped, and then steamed to get rid of any settled dust and germs. If you have carpets then you should hoover and shampoo them using a professional carpet cleaner. You can buy these or rent them, you could even hire someone to do it for you.

Fixtures & Fittings

If potential buyers come over and notice your home is in a state of disrepair this could put them off making an offer. Before they come and take a look around, make sure everything that is on your repairs to-do list has been completed. If there is something major that has cropped up when potential buyers pop around be sure to tell them that you are in the process of fixing it. This should put their mind at ease that if they buy your property they won’t be walking into a fixer-upper when the sale goes through.

The Exterior

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the exterior of your home should match up with the inside. If potential buyers turn up at your property and the outside doesn't look appealing then this could very well turn buyers off from buying.

Your garden and home exterior should be warm and welcoming. You need to make sure that it doesn’t look worn out and tired. If it does, be sure to make the effort to fix it up. Check your windows and doors. If these are looking old maybe you need to think about replacing them. Contact a window replacement company to discuss your options if you feel your home will make more of an impression with new windows. You might even be able to put the asking price up a little with the new windows installed.
