How I Save Money in the Winter

Wednesday, February 5, 2020

I was recently thinking of little life hacks or tricks I do in the Winter that help save me money or prevent me from spending it. Cabin fever is a real thing and as much as you may be tempted to sit in front of the computer ordering things on Amazon or going shopping in a store just to get out of the house, there’s better options that’ll save you in the long run.

I wear my wardrobe from other seasons.
Rather than buy a bunch of new stuff for Winter, I just use layers. I might wear a Summer tank under a Spring cardigan with a scarf, jeans, and boots. I save so much money buy not buying tons of bulky stuff for Winter. Plus, I save space in my closet.

I read books, borrowed from the library rather than purchased.

The library is FREE! And the library has lots of books and you can look books up online and have them sent in from other local libraries. Sure, I spend money here and there on books that I consider reference that I’ll read again and again but other than that, I get everything from the library. Also, reading keeps me home so I’m not tempted to shop in stores (or online).

I work on crafts.

Some crafts can be really expensive. But doing things like making a vision board from old magazines you have, making knotted fabric door hangers with old clothing and scissors, and simply drawing or coloring are ways to pass the time when stuck indoors but also don’t require you to go out and purchase tons of stuff.

I take nature walks.

Walking in nature is free at your local park. Head outside, get out in the sun and observe what nature looks like in colder dormant months. Collect pretty things you may find and use them in crafts.

I sell things online.

Now’s the time to do a purge and list some of your stuff you no longer want or need online for others. Snowed in? Start listing!! Seriously it’s easy anymore and if it doesn’t end up selling just donate it at a later time. I sell clothing, books, small appliances, beauty products that I never opened, and even jewelry.

I meditate and do yoga.

Again, this is free. There are tons of online tutorials that will guide you in a yoga session or a guided meditation. This is super good for your soul.

These are just some of the simple ways I save money with limited options because of the Winter. What do you do to save money?
