Organizing and Redecorating My Office Shelves

Monday, September 3, 2018

One of the great features in our home is the fact that we have built in closet and shelving in all of the bedrooms, including the office.  I have tried for many months to get it just right but after reading some home décor books I think I finally got it right how I wanted everything arranged.

This was before.  The books are stacked and lined up kind of an uneven, I'm using the baskets for storing items that I can't even see, and it just didn't feel tidy and organized as well as functional.

Organized and decorate home office bookshelves

Fast forward to a few hours later and BINGO! I kept the books together by color, I put the binders and cookbooks I rarely use on a high and hard to reach shelf.  I took my Filofaxes out of storage in the baskets and put them on the top shelf.  I added décor in between the books which I think was a really nice touch.

What really annoyed me was the ugliness on the left side of the shelves.  The boxes and stuff were just all cluttered looking.

Everything is tidy and clean looking now.   I love that there is décor as well!

If you're feeling inspired to redo a bookshelf in your home keep a few things in mind.

Start from scratch - Empty the shelf and clean it.

Plan - make mock stacks and arrangements on the floor before moving everything to the shelves.

Keep similar colors together - I kept my blue books together and the books that had white spines with red writing.  It makes everything look more streamlined.

Stack vertically - Every now and then I stacked some books in a pile to leave space in between.

What shelf in your home do you want to redecorate now?

    1. My own motto for myself is that there's always ways to tweak it. LOL! I am super organized normally though so I felt like it was a mess!
