How To Host A Great Summer Party

Monday, May 14, 2018

What better excuse to party than the fact that Summer is well on it's way and it feels great to be outside.  A lot of people say that they want to host parties or gatherings but they never know how to go about doing it and they fear it will be boring.

So today I'm going to give you a few basic tips to host a great summer party regardless of your budget!

Set a Theme
Of course you can throw a party just to throw one but sometimes it's more fun to have a reason and a theme.  Maybe you are celebrating one year in your new home, or you just got a new deck or patio.  Host a patio party or

Decide on Food
When I say decide on food I don't just mean what you're going to serve but also if you want to do the cooking or if you want everyone to bring something.  To keep it fun and easy, make sure YOU take care of the main dishes. Also, if you have a theme, that will help your guests get an idea of what kind of food to bring.

Booze
Booze can get pricey so consider asking everyone to BYOB that way you know everyone will have a drink they enjoy, or you can set the limits saying that you will have 1 keg, and some wine, but everyone should bring additional stuff to drink.

Seating
Make sure there's lots of seating for your guests so they can be comfortable.  If you don't own a lot of extra chairs, just ask guests to bring their own lawn chair.

Environment
Plan your party (if it's outside) for a time when the sun won't be directly overhead roasting everyone, unless you have a pool.  Make sure there is shade and even bug repellant available.  You can use tiki torches or if you have a screened in porch like we do, that will do the trick of keeping the bugs away.

Games
A party is fun for socializing but your guests need something to actually do.  Make sure there's a table for drinking games, consider purchasing some yard games like horseshoes and corn hole, and ask your guests to bring any games they own and might enjoy.   There are also some great card games that you can break out to keep the party going when the sun goes down.

Send Invites
A text is great but sometimes people forget details about a party like what they should bring.  Consider making a graphic invite on a site like Canva.com and sending it out via email and text.  If all of your potential guests have Facebook, a Facebook invite is a great way to invite folks AND have everyone keep track of what they are bringing. This is also the time to give instructions for where to park, and any rules for your home like shoes off, no kids, no pets, etc.

Hopefully these tips make it much easier and so enjoyable this Summer when you host a gathering!
