15 Things You Can Make Instead of Buy

When it comes to saving money, little things add up to big savings over time and today I wanted to share some things that you can make yourself instead of buying them. Over time these little savings can add up to be used towards you financial goals like paying off debt and building up your savings!

Household Cleaners

You can easily look up recipes for all kinds of cleaners to use around your home. After the initial investment costs of the supplies, you can usually make multiple bottles of cleaners from them.

Laundry Detergent

Another great thing to make yourself, especially since the costs of laundry detergent seem to be super high these days.

Hair and Face Masks

There are all kinds of fun recipes for these masks and most of the items needed you probably already have in your pantries.

Bug Spray

Again, there are tons of recipes you can use to make your own without all the harsh scary commercial ingredients.

Shoe Deodorizer

You can actually use baking powder and essential oils to refresh your stink shoes without having to spend a ton of money on brand name sprays.

Taco Seasoning

Here is my recipe, and bonus because you cut out the salt and it’s much better for you!

Dog Treats

You can make healthy dog treats in your own oven that are much safer than buying from pet stores, especially with all the recalls lately.

Holiday Décor

If you have a Cricut machine you’re in look because there are plenty of papercrafts you can do and use as décor. If you don’t, it’s all good because you can do lots of things even if you don’t have a knack for being creative. Instead of spending over $50 for the gorgeous wreaths you see at the craft stores, make your own for half the price.

Regular Décor

You can always paint unique items you find at the thrift store with bright colors and display around your home, again at a fraction of the cost of a home good store.

Kids Toys

You can also look up recipes for homemade playdough and Slime. You can even do your own tie dye shirts and have a headband crafting activity to cut back on clothing costs.

Bath Bombs and Bath Salts

Take time to relax AND save money by making your own luxurious bath salts and bombs. It’s a very low cost for supplies.

Pest Treatment

There are tons of DIY options out there on the internet for bug repellants for your garden and home that are all natural compared to the chemical bottles you buy in the stores.

Toothpaste

Yes, you can make your own toothpaste so look it up online and find the recipe you like best!

Shaving Cream

Shaving cream is so darn expensive but the internet has a plethora of easy DIY recipes for it!

Make Up Remover

You can make your own makeup remover AND the pads that go with it. Save money and take care of your skin!
