Last week I shared with you some of the reasons I started a new challenge based on the book Always Eat After 7PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks – While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. I talked about why it resonated with me and why I thought it would be the best method for me to follow a realistic diet to feel more energy and lose weight. So far, I have been doing great. It’s still something I need to think about each time I make a choice for eating, but I no longer feel like I’m being deprived and suffering.

There are so many great recipe ideas in this book and it’s really giving me even more motivation to stick with it because I really love them and they’re relatively simple for me to make. The No Bake Salted Caramel Bars are one of my favorite things because they aren’t hard to make, I had many of the ingredients on hand or easily available at my local grocery store, and I obviously didn’t need to bake them. There are some great ways to prepare food without having to sacrifice all of your free time, and lately I’ve been so busy so I value the idea of having more time to relax and less time obsessing over what I’m going to cook and eat.

I also feel much less guilt. We have been traditionally taught to avoid carbs and have an early dinner, and even to avoid eating before bed. The latest scientific research however shows us this model is not the most ideal. The most challenging time to curb hunger is just before bed and in the morning so by following the Always Eat After 7 PM Program, I have the most willpower because I’m eating when I’m most hungry. This even puts me into intermittent fasting which increases testosterone and boosts the metabolism so I am in ketosis.

Also for a planner like me, the meal planning aspect of this is very helpful. I love the suggestions for meals and snacks and it was so easy to integrate as a planning process for myself. This book has done a really great job so far with addressing realistic issues that my come up, like eating out and knowing how to choose meals that are in line with the plan. The author says “Look for proteins such as fish, poultry, and meat, and make sure they’re not fried or awash in sauces or gravy. For extra fiber and nutrients, order a salad when it’s offered.” I’ve already been doing this part and I’m so proud of myself. I just keep my eyes directed towards proteins and nutritious choices, and I always opt for a salad now!

When it comes to my goal of having more energy – it’s really working!! I am not depriving myself but instead fueling my body throughout the day and evening. This has given me more energy to get things done rather than just lay on the couch all evening. I also wake up refreshed and seem to be sleeping much more soundly at night. And with the weight loss, I’ve lost several pounds and a couple inches already. Because I have more energy, I’m much more active and I know that’s helping me shape up!
