Reading is a very fun hobby but it can get SO EXPENSIVE and lead to a lot of impulse purchases. That's why I wanted to share some really cool ways you can get books for free! Little Free Libraries
Yes, those little book boxes in the form of mini libraries are a GREAT place to get books for free. There's a Little Free Library app that shows them on a map in your area but not everyone registers their library so keep an eye out when you're running errands or driving around town. Make a note of where the libraries are and stop by them every few weeks. Remember to return books to other libraries or give away some of your own. And although some people do use it as a dumping ground for books that aren't very popular, many times there are some real treasures and even new release books in these!
Public Library
Do not sleep on the public library near you. Go get a card and read as much as you can. It's free!!! And you can even take out e-reader book loans that get delivered right to your device. Do some research to find other libraries in your state that you may have access too simply by being a resident. In Pennsylvania, I am part of my local library system but I also have digital access to the Philadelphia Free Library.
Library Book Sales
Another cool thing about your local library is that many of them have annual book sales. I recently attended my first one (my library does it once in Spring and once in Fall) and I got SO MANY BOOKS! These aren't free of course but they are super cheap and usually on the last day of the sale you can fill a bag or 2 for a cheap price of $5-$10 so basically you can get a ton of books for almost free.
Buy Nothing or Free Groups
There are local buy nothing and local free groups in every area, most can be found on Facebook. People often post photos of stacks of books and ask who wants them so keep a close eye.
Become a Book Reviewer
You can look up independent authors looking for ARC (advance reader copy) reviewers and sign up to get a free book (usually electronically but sometimes a physical copy is possible). When you're done be sure to leave feedback because authors depend on that to spread the word about their books. You can also find websites online like NetGalley where you can sign up and review early releases of books, even super popular authors!
This is honestly how I do it when it comes to building up my own library of books so be sure to check out these ways to get free books yourself.
