Dry chapped lips, flaky skin, make up that simply doesn’t sit on your face like it normally does. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, these are some of the common side effects of a poor skincare routine. With winter in full swing yet again, now is a better time than ever to look at the damage that you might be causing to your skin. We all know that keeping it clean will help keep spots at bay, but maintaining a decent skincare routine takes a lot more than remembering to take your make up off at night.

Look at what you’re putting into your body
The way your skin appears on the outside often starts from what you’re putting into your body. It doesn’t take a genius to realise that bingeing on junk food and alcohol won’t do your skin any favours. However, we understand that part of life involves letting yourself have fun with your friends and usually, this involves alcohol.
We’re by no means saying don’t have fun, but bringing in more of a balance in regards to what you’re consuming will help your skin tremendously. Here are some tips if you’re a little unsure on where to start:
Drink the recommended 2 liters of water a day - it will make more of a difference than you think!
Pack in your five a day as much as you can. Even if this means consuming a juice drink, or even a smoothie, it’s still giving your body the nutrients it’s craving and therefore, helping your skin.
If you are planning on drinking alcohol, be sure to drink plenty of water before and after to help keep you hydrated. Plus, you’ll thank yourself tomorrow.
If you’re struggling to get the nutrients in, consider taking multivitamins. Not only will it benefit your skin, but it will also help brain power and concentration.
Do a deep cleanse once a month
Even with washing your face daily, it’s easy for your skin to become clogged with dirt, debris, and even grease from the environments that you’re in. Using a deep cleansing face mask, an exfoliating glove, and exfoliating once a month will ensure that your pores are free and most importantly, make sure you’re not breaking out in spots.
Treat your skin to some lavish products
Finally, once you’ve sorted out what you’re putting into your body and you’ve got into a deep cleanse routine, it’s time to look at how you treat your skin on the outside. Did you know that a good skincare routine consists of moisturising at least twice a day? And we don’t just mean your face either! Taking the time to moisturise first thing in the morning, and last thing at night will make a world of difference to how your skin looks and feels.
As you can see, with a little time and effort your skin could be much healthier than it is right now. If you’re someone who suffers with a skin condition, be sure to check out our articles about how to deal with them and find some relief!
