Our Mini-Moon at the Cabin

Monday, October 8, 2018

I am such a homebody that travelling doesn't really relax me and instead it makes me homesick.  I've always been this way.  So for that reason and because we wanted to put money into our house this past year (we did with our patio, basement and garage floors, and screened in porch), which we decided to just take a mini honeymoon near our 1 year wedding anniversary.

This past weekend we went away to James' family's cabin which is in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania.  It was a beautiful time of year to go up and the best part is we got to bring the dogs with us!  It was a huge relief that I wouldn't have to miss them and worry about how they were doing.  Yes, I am a weird obsessive dog mom but I don't care.  Those babies are my life!

Historic Round Barn in Adams County Pennsylvania
Our first stop was the Historic Round Barn where they have a farmer's market inside of delicious goodies and other products as well as flowers and pumpkins.   I was sold the instant I read that they have donkeys and goats on the property.

Inside was really cool.  They had a lot of antique items on display.

Oh and they sold doggie beer!!!!  Yes, you read that correctly. It's actually not real bear but it has a similar flavor and is packed with nutrients.  Too funny!

After the barn we went across the street to Hauser Estates Winery and sampled some wine and ciders.  I fell in love with Minie Ball Red which basically tastes like cherry and I wish I would have bought 10 more bottles.

Then we stopped in town at Buddy Boy to check out their wine selection.  Their vineyard is actually near home in Duncannon so we plan to go out there over the next couple of weeks as well! I picked up 2 wines from the little shop we were in.  Can't wait to enjoy them!

Since we were a 10 minute drive from Gettysburg, we decided to go to the Gettysburg Battlefields for the Auto Tour where you follow the signs and drive around reading about everything.   It was beautiful but sad because so many lives were lost.  Enjoy all the photos I took!

It was such a beautiful time of year to be at the cabin, that's for sure.

I am so grateful that James' family has the cabin and was able to share it with us for free.  Which reminded me of something I also wanted to share with you when it comes to being grateful, giving to others, and family.
I'm sure you've heard of Precious Moments before and the Feed the Children organization. Since the holidays are upon us, it's a great time to help ensure that no child goes hungry with The Precious Moments Giving Plate.  You can actually share treats with friends  that can also help feed kids in need.  5% of the profits from The Precious Moments Giving Plate is donated towards Feed the Children.

It's such a great way to start a tradition that encourages the recipient to refill and pass the plate again and again.  You can bring this plate over to a family gathering to spread the word and share your side dish.  You can also give it as a gift to the hostess of the home.  You know the rule is to never go anywhere empty handed because it's rude to not give the hostess a gift.  And what better gift than one that keeps on giving, as cliché as that sounds.  You can purchase your own plate on www.christianbook.com.  The 5% donation to Feed the Children will be going on through December 30, 2020.  These donations are used to end childhood hunger and create a healthy foundation for kids and families to break the cycle of poverty.
