Keeping Your Home as Comfortable as Possible

Sunday, March 22, 2020

If you’re going to be spending a little more time at home, you’re going to want to make sure it’s as comfortable and positive an environment as possible. After all, this is your safe haven. It’s really not all too hard to make your home the best space it can be and you don’t have to spend a lot of money either. You just need to spend a little time making it as appropriate, functional and cosy as possible. Here are a few steps that you can take to achieve this!

Tidy Up

Many of our homes are pretty cluttered. This really isn’t all too surprising. After all, usually we have extremely hectic schedules - commuting back and forth to work, keeping up with a hectic work schedule, trying to squeeze in hangouts with friends and family and trying to maintain hobbies and other activities we enjoy. Finding time to keep our properties as organised and clear as we might like them to be can often prove too far a push on our time limits. But if you have some more time on your hands now, use it as an opportunity to declutter. Take a look through your belongings and determine what you actually use and what’s simply getting in the way. If you haven’t used something in a long time and it doesn’t have any sentimental value, chances are you don’t really need it and it’s simply taking up space. Put these items to a side to determine what you can do with them. They could be sold. They could be donated. They could be recycled. Some will simply need to be thrown away. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be left with the belongings you’re going to keep. We’ll deal with these in the next step.

Come Up With Storage Solutions

You need to make sure that each item you do keep has its own allocated space. This is where storage solutions can come into play. Having storage solutions will give you space to keep your belongings without your home looking cluttered and your surfaces or floor space filling up. There are so many storage options out there - you don’t necessarily need a lot of cupboards already built into your house. Instead, you can invest in bookshelves for books, coat racks for coats and hats, shoe racks for shoes, rails and hooks for pots and pans in the kitchens, then shelves and underbed storage for all sorts of other belongings. On top of this you can get clever and discrete storage solutions, such as poofs that lift open. These are often great for storing bulky material items like bedding or towels inside.

Do a Deep Clean

By now, your home will already be looking a lot clearer and feeling much more habitable. But your journey doesn’t end there. Now it’s time to make it cleaner by conducting a real deep clean. This means tackling all areas of your home. Not only is this great for hygiene, but it will make everything look a lot more aesthetically pleasing too! Wipe down all worksurfaces, cupboards and appliances in the kitchen. Dust all wooden surfaces, such as bookshelves, shelves and units. You can find top tips on how to dust as best possible here. Mop the floors. Vacuum the carpets. Disinfect the bathrooms. Bleach the toilets. To go all out, start doing things like wiping down skirting boards and the tops of door frames. Small steps make a big difference to the overall cleanliness of the house!

Create a Cosy Atmosphere

Once everything’s clean and tidy, you can start really enjoying your home. Simple steps can help to make a cosy atmosphere. Use diffusers for beautiful scents. Open blinds and curtains to have plenty of natural light during the days. Plug in lamps for softer and cosier lighting in the evenings. Wrap up in a blanket on the sofa. Make sure the room is a nice temperature. Simple steps make big differences!

Create a Space for Exercise

We all need to exercise and it is possible from the comfort of your own home. So, why not create a space where you can work out easily and safely. It might be a space where you can roll out a yoga mat. It might be a space where you can use dumbbells or do a few push ups!

These are just a few different steps that you can take to make your home as comfortable and enjoyable a space to be in as possible. Implement them into your property and your mood will be lifted in next to no time.
