The Best in Affordable Living for Those on a Budget

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

It shouldn’t matter whether or not you’re on a tight budget - we all need a place to live where we’re safe, comfortable, convenient to work and family, and most of all, happy. Whether you rent or buy, have roommates, a growing family, or live alone, we all deserve to have that basic need met.

For those who are hunting for housing, especially those who are in the market for a rental property, it can be really difficult to find a home that you love. Something that’s in the right area, big enough with a large yard, in good shape, for the right price. It can seem like finding a needle in a haystack, and many people settle for homes that aren’t quite what they want for fear they won’t find anything else.

However, there are things you can do to find a great rental property for affordable prices, if you just know where to look. There are untapped resources out there for a person with any budget.

Many people overlook mobile home and manufactured-home communities because they have certain ideas in their mind about what those types of homes represent. Ignore the stereotypes and get to know the communities in your area. Often manufactured homes and mobile home communities are well maintained and looked after, with lovely neighbors and kind, fair landlords. And prices for manufactured and mobile home parks are much cheaper than renting a house, even in similar areas. For instance, manufactured home rentals in Jackson, MI are extremely affordable - you’ll find a beautiful, clean home in a safe neighborhood for a really decent price per month.

Another area to look for affordable housing for rent are townhomes, duplexes and apartments. Too often we assume that these homes are just for students or single people, but that’s not always the case. There are large apartment homes and other rentals available in gated communities with nice amenities like laundry, a swimming pool and/or gym, and in some cases, you might even have a nice-sized yard! Rent for these homes tend to be much cheaper than renting a house, and you’ll feel safe in your gated community with lots of neighbors.

If you’re hellbent on a house, you can find affordable and nice-sized homes just outside the city limits, saving tons of money just by moving a few miles outside of town center. Other options include rent to own, HUD homes and fixer-uppers that you can fix up in your spare time for a percentage taken off the rent. All of these options are a great way to find a lovely home that’s within your budget.

These are just a few ways that you can find an affordable rental for you and your family. Too many families feel forced to pay more rent than they can really afford, or downsize into a home that they aren’t truly comfortable with. If you know the right places to look, you can avoid having to compromise and find a great home that fits all your needs, while remaining in your budget.
